Judge it as what it is: a cheap, simple, expendable camera. As a first camera for a child or a beach spare you would not cry over losing, it makes sense. As a serious purchase, it does not.

Our take
Kodak PIXPRO FZ45 review: a cheap compact with one clear job
A genuinely inexpensive point-and-shoot that takes AA batteries and does not need charging. The FZ45 is a first camera for a child or a holiday spare, not a phone replacement.
What we like
- Very cheap — cheaper than most phone cases
- Runs on AA batteries, so no charger needed
- Simple enough for a child to use
- Light and expendable for holidays and festivals
What to watch
- Image quality is well behind any modern phone
- Struggles badly in low light
- Basic screen and slow operation
- Video is functional at best
Quick answers
Is the Kodak FZ45 better than a phone camera?
No. A modern phone will produce better photographs in almost every situation. The reasons to buy this are price, AA batteries, simplicity, and not caring if it gets lost or sandy.
Is it good for children?
Yes, that is arguably its best use. It is cheap enough not to worry about, simple enough to hand over, and running on AA batteries means a dead camera is fixed by a shop rather than a charger.
Does it use AA batteries?
It does, which is genuinely useful on holiday, at festivals and for children — you can buy replacements anywhere rather than hunting for a charging cable.
