Our take

Panasonic Lumix TZ70 review: an older travel zoom that still delivers

A 30x zoom, a viewfinder and a lower resolution sensor that handles noise surprisingly well. The TZ70 is an older camera whose price is now its main attraction.

What we like

  • 30x zoom with a built-in viewfinder
  • Lower pixel count means less noise per pixel
  • Cheapest way into the Lumix travel zoom line
  • Wi-Fi and NFC for transferring shots

What to watch

  • No 4K video
  • Older processor and slower operation
  • Fixed screen
  • Superseded several times over

Quick answers

Is 12 megapixels enough?

For prints, screens and social media, easily. Spreading fewer pixels across the sensor also means each one collects more light, which is why this camera copes with dim conditions a little better than you might expect from its age.

Does the TZ70 shoot 4K?

No — it records Full HD. If 4K video or 4K Photo matters to you, the TZ90 is the model to look at.

Is it worth buying over a newer model?

Only on price. Newer models are faster, shoot 4K and have better screens. If those do not matter and the TZ70 is significantly cheaper, it remains a competent travel camera.
