Our take

Panasonic Lumix G100 review: a small camera built around audio

Panasonic put a directional audio system into a tiny interchangeable-lens body. For vloggers who care about sound, the G100 is an unusual and clever proposition.

What we like

  • Directional audio system tracks the speaker
  • Very small and light for an interchangeable-lens camera
  • Fully articulating screen
  • Often bundled with a tripod grip

What to watch

  • No in-body stabilisation
  • 4K video is cropped and time-limited
  • Small sensor by hybrid camera standards
  • Battery life is modest

Quick answers

What is special about the G100’s audio?

It uses a multi-microphone system that works out where the speaker is and focuses on that direction, suppressing sound from elsewhere. On a camera aimed at solo creators, that means usable audio without clipping on a separate microphone.

Does the G100 have image stabilisation?

Not in the body — it relies on stabilised lenses and electronic stabilisation. Walking shots are therefore less steady than on a gimbal camera such as the Osmo Pocket 3.

What is the difference between the two G100 versions?

One is the camera and lens; the other adds a tripod grip that doubles as a handle and remote. For vlogging, the grip version is usually worth the small extra.
