Our take

Panasonic Lumix G80 review: the sensible all-rounder

Weather sealing, dual image stabilisation and 4K video in a mid-sized body. The G80 has been a quiet recommendation for years, and the price makes it quieter still.

What we like

  • Dual I.S. combines body and lens stabilisation effectively
  • Weather-sealed body at a modest price
  • Fully articulating screen
  • 4K video and 4K Photo

What to watch

  • 16MP is modest by current standards
  • Smaller sensor struggles in low light
  • Older autofocus system
  • Ageing electronic viewfinder

Quick answers

What is Dual I.S.?

Panasonic’s system for combining in-body stabilisation with stabilisation in the lens. Working together they correct more movement than either could alone, which shows most in handheld video and long-lens stills.

Is 16 megapixels enough?

For prints up to A3, screens and social media, comfortably. You have less room to crop aggressively than with a 24MP camera, but for most uses it is not a practical limitation.

G80 or G9?

The G9 is faster, tougher and has better stabilisation and a bigger grip. The G80 is smaller, lighter and cheaper. For casual and travel use the G80 is plenty.
