Our take

Sony ZV-1 II review: a compact built entirely around vlogging

A wide 18-50mm equivalent zoom, a 1-inch sensor and a microphone that actually works outdoors. The ZV-1 II is a compact designed for talking to camera rather than adapted for it.

What we like

  • Genuinely wide 18mm equivalent — fits you and the background in
  • 1-inch sensor with pleasing background blur
  • Excellent directional microphone with supplied windshield
  • Product showcase and background defocus modes work well

What to watch

  • No in-body stabilisation — walking shots need care
  • Battery life is modest
  • No viewfinder
  • Fixed lens, so no upgrade path

Quick answers

Is the ZV-1 II good for vlogging?

It is built for it. The lens goes properly wide so you can hold it at arm’s length without cropping your face, the microphone is directional with a supplied fluffy windshield, and dedicated modes handle background blur and product hand-offs automatically.

Does it have image stabilisation?

Electronic only, not in-body mechanical stabilisation. Static and slow shots are fine; brisk walking footage will show movement. A gimbal camera like the Osmo Pocket 3 is smoother if you shoot on the move.

ZV-1 II or DJI Osmo Pocket 3?

The Sony has a proper zoom range, better manual control and a superior microphone. The DJI has a mechanical gimbal and rotates to vertical. Choose the Sony for seated or static filming, the DJI for walking and travel.
